Children’s Liturgy of the Word

God put the wiggle in our kiddos, but sometimes that wiggle can be a little too distracting to truly absorb the beauty of the Mass! With Children’s Liturgy of the Word, we help the Mass feel relevant for our kids by reflecting on God’s Word in an intimate environment conducive to growing their faith.

Each week, children are dismissed after the opening prayer. We gather to hear that day’s readings in easy-to-understand language, then discuss how to apply what we’ve heard to our own lives. We profess our faith together, and kids may raise their hands for prayer requests. We return to the sanctuary to participate in the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the rest of the congregation. Parents are always welcome to join us!

When: During the 11:00 am Mass, October-June

Who: Kids grades K-3

Volunteering

This ministry exists because of the willing hearts of volunteers. We have 3 specific needs:

1. Leaders - Lead the worship & discussion time. Preparation is minimal and an outline, with ideas for discussion points & questions for the kids to answer, is provided. A music CD for the Psalm & Gospel Acclamation is also already available.

2. Assistants - Provide extra supervision & chaperone bathroom needs.

3. Runner – Come to get us during the Nicene Creed so that we can enter Mass quietly during the Offertory.

Should you feel called to this ministry, we ask that you commit to one Sunday per month for the calendar year.

Our kids need consistency, and our grown-ups need the freedom to foster their own faith in the adult Liturgy of the Word, as well! The commitment requirement enables us to make a flexible, but reliably filled schedule of volunteers. The calendar is made on a monthly basis, so conflicts & travel can be accommodated.
