Sacramental Preparation

Our Vision

Sacramental Preparation at Christ the King is founded on our belief that parents are the primary and most important teachers of the faith. The parish exists to support you along that journey. In light of this, our program consists of catechesis for both parents and children. Both attend all preparation sessions, although instruction will take place separately. Furthermore, half of the preparation for each sacrament will take place in the home, the domestic church.

“The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute” – Gravissimum Educationis, the Declaration on Christian Education from the Second Vatican Council, 1965

Responsibilities

Sacramental Preparation is a two-year program during which your child will receive First Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Communion.

The most important aspect of this preparation is weekly Mass attendance and is expected of all families.

Families are particularly invited to the 11am Mass at Christ the King which occurs after/before sacramental preparation.

Year 1 consists of preparing for and receiving First Reconciliation and engaging in parish life through our faith formation program, Emmaus.*

Year 2 consists of preparing for and receiving Confirmation and First Communion.

*Emmaus is our monthly, whole community faith formation program. For the dates, more information, and to register, visit christthekingnh.org/emmaus. Please remember, a year of participation in Emmaus is required before preparing for Confirmation and First Communion. We strongly encourage your family continue to attend if possible.

"We go to Mass not simply because it’s an obligation. Rather, we attend Mass because it’s our loving response to the God who has loved us first. It is an active choice of the will to give of our time, treasure, and talent – knowing full well it will never amount to the sacrifice endured by our Savior." ~ author unknown
